Maartez
00M - 01 Maartez - The big 0 Cat# 00M - 003 (limited 150 copy's)

Maartez first album is a gem. The key factor what makes this album so amazingly addictive is the combination of pop songs drenched in cinematic atmospheres and complex beat programming.

No more Encre?
The second release on Erik Skodvin (Deaf Center)'s Miasmah imprint is a stunning piece of music from Yann Tambour, the Frenchman who records under the pseudonym Encre. After the wonderfully theatrical 'Silva' compilation from earlier this year, Encre has come up with the perfect full-length entrée to a label which promises to be one to watch in the near future. Comprised of one forty minute composition, Tambour uses his Cello, voice and the natural sounds around him to slowly piece together a life-affirming symphony in the vein of Steve Reich, Colleen or even Deaf Center themselves.

Beginning with the hushed, echoing sound of slowly scraped strings, we are subtly introduced to longer chords and the simplest of lightly plucked strings. This is a piece of music which you just have to let build around you, close your eyes and it gently arranges itself bit by bit, with elements appearing and disappearing gracefully and purposefully. The track reaches a triumphant moment of togetherness mid way through where every element is blended together before falling head over heels into the second half, a darker journey accompanied by the sound of rain pattering on a window.

I imagine 'Plexus II' as the perfect midnight soundtrack, alone with a fire burning, perfect as darker nights loom. The album is celebratory and reverential, just in a slower more measured way than you would normally expect and as it ebbs and flows it allows you to sink into it's romance and cinematic excesses. Without a doubt Encre's most endearing moment yet, this is a fabulous example of an artist willing to take risks many would try to avoid.

Flux, Encre's last album is well worth checking out also. Just today I noticed this on his website: YANN ENCRE IS CURRENTLY FOCUSED ON HIS NEW PROJECT : THEE, STRANDED HORSE NEW ALBUM "CHURNING STRIDES" OUT ON BLANKTAPES. So...check that out also, and see/listen if it's "worth" a new name.

Internet2 culture
Internet2 culture, you-tube and myspace etc thrive on the interactive elements on there website. Besides the personal approach where visitors are able to express there thoughts or opinions, the websites are great tools for musicians and artists who suddenly had the possibility to access millions of potential fans/consumers.

Internet2 has changed the way publications are done, be it educational, totally unimportant opinions or music, today it's possible for anyone with Internet.

New regulations in the U.S, might be forcing the way we publish our thoughts and music today to be endangered as a whole. It basically comes down to this; Telephone-cable company's want to be censoring the Internet. They decide what will be on the net. You never know what kind of policy is enforced when trying to submit a website but one can imagine it involves money. And my bet lot's of it! You tube is a part of a big corporation and is most likely here to stay. But the heart of the Internet, the possibility to publish virtually anything is gone. Free printed Press died, free radio died will Internet be next? check out Save the Internet.com

When we log onto the Internet, we take a lot for granted. We assume we'll be able to access any Web site we want, whenever we want, at the fastest speed, whether it's a corporate or mom-and-pop site. We assume that we can use any service we like — watching online video, listening to podcasts, sending instant messages — anytime we choose.

What makes all these assumptions possible is Network Neutrality. Please feel free to leave a comment!
